Addis Ababa and Lalibela

Ethiopia Lalibela WelcomeEthiopia is a country of mystery and magic which does not disappoint. We went in search of hidden churches and ancient religions and found salvation in our friend Will! Literally bumping into him as we came back into the light after staggering around in the dark down hells corridor, he was silhouetted with a heavenly glow. Unfortunately we know the real Will and realised how inappropriate this was for him!

Ethiopia FlowersWe only had a week’s holiday and so had to fly from Addis Ababa to Lalibella and did not have the time to explore the country to a greater degree. But from our whistle stop tour we did find out that everyone is extremely friendly and helpful, Kuwaiti dollars are a viable currency and that the local bread is an acquired taste! The ancient churches chiseled into the rock in Lalibella are worth the visit and are more numerous then we had anticipated. However the large, aircraft hanger style aluminum cover that UNESCO have placed over some of them does do something to dampen their wonder. Not quite the view I was hoping for in my kodak moment!

Ethiopian airlines fly regularly from Dubai and it only takes a few hours, although there are no TV screens I do highly recommend their airline blankets!
