The crater lake region is the best area in Uganda without those pesky, permit touting, national park folk. There are many craters and natural attractions to be visited for free.
We headed straight for the Lake Nkuruma Nature Reserve and Community Campsite. This campsite has its own crater where there are many different monkey and bird species. It is one of the only completely forested craters left in the area. We stayed a bannia the first night then camped after that.
The first morning we explored the crater, went for a swim then chilled. Over the next few days we went to the a local water fall and dinned at the best lodge in the region Ndali lodge. Ndali lodge is next to Lake Nyinambuga, a view of which is on the Ugandan 20,000 schilling note. For those with some money knocking around Ndali lodge is not to be missed.
