Kigali Fashion Week’s 2014 grand finale was always going to be the a fabulous affair, especially as the British High Commissioner was the guest of honour. The event attracted a global audience after the appointment of Kigali fashion week as a permanent board member of the commonwealth fashion council.

We arrived reasonably early, enjoyed the free mutzig and bagged seats a few rows back from the cat walk.  The show was started by some live music. What followed was an entertaining procession of 12 collections interspersed by public cat walk competitions for Techno prizes. Many of the collections were a marriage of kitenge and world fashion styles, although the odd designer had taken a theme or a different textile to another level!

Kigali Fashion Week will only go from strength to strength. One wonders what creations will be on show next year…
